On December 4th, NOVA University Lisbon at The Knowledge Hub Universities, hosted a special screening of Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo (البحث عن منفذ للسيد رامبو) as part of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion module within the Careers with Impact course. The event brought together students, faculty, and colleagues for a meaningful exploration of themes central to inclusive education.
Following the screening, a reflective panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Amira Al-Basiony, featuring the valued participation of Professor Francisco Caramelo, NOVA Branch Director, and Dr. Nehal Afifi, SBE Program Director. The panel guided attendees through a rich dialogue on identity, belonging, nostalgia, dignity, and the ethics of care—core pillars of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Through its poignant narrative, Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo highlighted the lived experiences of marginalized voices and the quiet resilience required to reclaim dignity. At its heart, the tender bond between Hassan and Rambo reflected the universal human need for connection, compassion, and safety.
The event reaffirmed the power of cinema as a pedagogical tool, demonstrating its ability to foster empathy, critical reflection, and inclusive dialogue within higher education. Students and faculty alike left inspired, with a renewed appreciation for storytelling as a catalyst for understanding and social awareness.
